The Bride Of Christ

Genesis 2:21-23 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. And Adam said: "This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man."

There is so much meaning beneath the surface of these verses that I am almost overwhelmed by it.

Suffering

Gen 3:17 says, Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life."

This verse speaks of a curse that was promounced on Adam and, in fact, the whole Earth.  

But this begs the question, was the earth cursed by God?  

Is God the author of suffering?

The Beatitudes

From Latin beatitudo meaning perfect happiness

Psalm 1:1-3 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”

Sanctuary

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”    Psalm 91:1

The theme of this Sermon is “Sanctuary”

And just what is meant by “sanctuary”?

It means different things to different people.

Some people think of sanctuary as a condition – a sense of security and safety – protection from harm or threat.

But others think of it as a place.
