Surrender

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, August 26, 2018

So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30

What a picture God has painted for us with these few words.

William Shakespeare asked the question, “What’s in a Word”.

Well God is the inventor of words and He uses them most effectively.

It has been said that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

This is Synergy.

The last words of the Savior are a testament, and I believe that they carry ...

Guilty But Not Condemned

Posted by David Puffer on Tuesday, August 21, 2018

If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well; but if you show partiality, you commit sin, and are convicted by the law as transgressors. For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.  James 2:8-10

What is guilt?

Guilt is a feeling, an emotional response to wrong-doing.

The dictionary defines it as a remorseful awareness of having committed an offense.

It is also...

The Meta-Narrative

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, July 29, 2018

2 Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does  not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any  two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Tim 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, fo...

Essentials

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, July 22, 2018

The Apostle Paul writes in Phil 2:14, “Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.”

And in Romans 14:1 he warns the saints not to get caught up in doubtful disputations (that is, arguing about th...

To Glorify The Lord

Posted by David Puffer on Monday, July 16, 2018

"Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish." This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And  when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me."   John 21:18-19

These passages in John have been interpreted for centuries to be speaking of Peter’s death on a Roman cross.

According to legend Pete...

Breath Of God

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, July 8, 2018

So he answered and said to me: "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,' Says the LORD of hosts.  Zech 4:6

The Scriptures contain many illustrations of the truth laid out in this passage.

The examples move from the parting of the Red Sea 1500 years before the Cross to the Lord’s calming of the storm on the Sea of Galilee.

Between those two events we see David’s encounter with the Philistine giant, Goliath.

Let’s look at  1Sam 17:40-...

The Gatekeepers

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, July 1, 2018

2 Chronicles 23:19

And he set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord, so that no one who was in any way unclean should enter.

What was a Gatekeeper?  And what place do they represent in the new Covenant?

First of all, let’s look at what a gate or door is.

Each is primarily a moveable structure that opens or closes an opening in a wall – Gates and doors are places of transition – where one moves from one place to another.

They are an interface between the inside and t...

Shekinah Glory

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, June 24, 2018

John 17:1-5  Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.  And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.  I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.  And now, O Father, glor...

Fatherhood

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, June 17, 2018

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. John 1:12-13

What is fatherhood?  It is the state of being a father.

The dictionary defines a father as:

1. One who has begotten a child, whether son or daughter; a generator; a male parent.

That’s biological.

2. A male ancestor more remote than a parent; a founder of a race or...

Theodicy - The Problem Of Evil

Posted by David Puffer on Sunday, June 10, 2018

Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He Himself tempt anyone.  But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.  Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. James 1:13-15

It is inevitable that at some point in your Christian walk, somebody will ask you about the integrity of God.

That is, how do you deal with the tension between the g...
